AS A CATHOLIC I WANT TO SHARE AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE AT THE CONFEDERATE MUSEUM IN RICHMOND. NEXT DOOR IS JEFFERSON DAVIS’ “WHITE HOUSE” (ACTUALLY A MODEST TOWN HOUSE). INSIDE IS A PAINTING SENT TO DAVIS BY THE POPE. IT SHOWS SAINT MICHALE DRVING SATAN OUT OF HEAVEN. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER THE PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL: SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL DEFEND US IN BATTLE. BE OUR PROT4ECTION AGAINST THE WILES AND SNARES OF THE DEVIL. REBUKE HIM, OH LORD, AND DO THOU
O PRINCE OF THE HEAVENLY HOST, CAST INTO HELL SATAN AND THE OTHER DEMONS WHO WANDER THROUGH THE WORLD SEEKING THE RUIN OF SOULS.
DOES SAINT MICHAEL SYMBOLIZE THE CONFEDERATE ARMY?
    IS SATAN THE NORTH?
I DO NOT KNOW. CATHOLICS WERE TREATED BETTER IN THE SOUTH THAN IN THE NORTH, THAT IS A FACT.
BUT MY DECEASED RELATIVES WHO FOUGHT IN THE CIVIL WAR WERE NORTHERN AND PROTESTANT. WE STILL HAVE THE CONDOLENCE LETTER WRITTEN TO THE PARENTS OF
MY GREAT GRANDMOTHER, WHOSE BROTHER, PRIVATE
STEVEN NICHOLS (SHE WAS BORN ALCESTA NICHOLS) DIED
AT NEWPORT NEWS IN 1862 OF WOUNDS HE SUFFERED IN A BATTLE OUTSIDE RICHMOND. AND HE WAS ONE OF FOUR WHO FOUGHT FOR THE NORTH IN “MR LINCOLN’S WAR”
AS THEY CALLED IT, TWO OF WHOM DIED.
AND YET MY SYMPATHIES ARE WITH THE SOUTH.
SOME OF US ARE BORN REBELS.
    I AM ONE.
THE CIVIL WAR IS THE PIVOTAL EVENT IN AMERICAN HISTORY, AND IT WILL ALWAYS STAND FOR REBELLION VS.
AUTHORITARIANISM. IN ALL HONESTY, I BELIEVE SLAVERY
    WAS NOT THE MAJOR ISSUE.
