Second Suspect Arrested in UNC Killing

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (March 13) – Authorities in Durham, N.C., say they have arrested the second suspect wanted in the slaying of the University of North Carolina’s student body president.

Durham police Lt. Robert McLaughlin Jr. said early Thursday that officers arrested Lawrence Alvin Lovette Jr. at 4:16 a.m. He said the 17-year-old Lovette surrendered to patrol and SWAT officers who had surrounded his home.

Police on Wednesday arrested 21-year-old Demario James Atwater of Durham. He later made an initial court appearance on charges of first-degree murder and was ordered held without bond.

Twenty-two-year-old student body president Eve Carson Carson was found last week lying on a street about a mile from campus. The biology and political science major from Athens, Ga., had been shot several times, including once in the right temple.  [more]

My Thoughts:

How much do you want to bet this will never be considered a hate crime?  How fast do you think the suspects would have been charged with a hate crime if they had been white and the victim had been black?

The double standard is sickening.  Reverse discrimination is discrimination; and it will always be racist to punish someone more harshly for having the wrong color of skin (even if it is white).  This is why hate crime legislation is unconstitutional.  It punishes people  unequally depending on the race of the victim.  Did we not learn that subjugating someone because of the color of their skin is wrong?  Did we not learn that making someone’s life less valuable because of their race is unacceptable?

Not to mention, this also proves that our right to arm and defend ourselves should never be infringed upon by our government.  Had Eve Carson been armed when she was attacked she may be alive today.  The only people gun control effects are law abiding citizens.  They lose their rights and they become the victims to criminals who will always obtain firearms illegally.

Eve Carson’s family may have owned slaves in Athens, Georgia. Plus, word on the streets is Eve was buying drugs and playing Privileged White Flaunt – where privileged whites drive through underprivileged black neighborhoods at dangerous hours to tease poor blacks with their possessions.

You are dispicable for leaving a comment like this. Anything her family may or may not have done generations ago does not matter. She is an innocent victim that was slaughtered. I hope those responsible pay.

People like you are truly pathetic. What it comes down to is you would find any reason to justify the murder of a human if you decide you did not approve of their lifestyle. What are you thinking?

These are baseless accusations against a dead woman. First of all, respect the dead. Second, don’t say anything you do not have evidence for. “Word on the streets” is not good enough. Third, buying drugs and bad behavior are not grounds to murder someone; if it were this world would be minus a large portion of its population.

This justification for animalistic behavior is unacceptable from anyone commenting on this blog. There is one victim; Eve Carson. God commanded, thou shall not murder. There was no disclaimer for thugs to prey upon anyone for any reason.
